Award-Winning Border Film “Trokas Duras” Comes to Laredo and Beyond (All Gray TV Stations (English and Spanish))

LAREDO, Tex. (Hola Laredo) -

Filmmaker and artist Jazmin Garcia is taking her latest short film, Trokas Duras, on tour across the Texas/Mexico borderlands — and Laredo is one of the stops. The award-winning film offers a heartfelt look into life in Los Angeles through the lens of Latino day laborers and the uniquely customized pickup trucks they drive. With support from the National Day Laborer Organizing Network (NDLON), Trokas Duras celebrates community, resilience, and the beauty of overlooked narratives.

Garcia, whose work centers around themes of immigration, identity, and transformative justice, recently won the Short Film Jury Award for Best U.S. Fiction at Sundance Film Festival 2025. Her Texas tour brings together local partners including La Unión del Pueblo Entero (LUPE), ENTRE Film Center, Laredo Film Society, Border Artists Society, and Esperanza Peace and Justice Center.

Following each screening, audience members are invited to join a bilingual community plática (discussion) about the film and ongoing grassroots work around justice, culture, and resistance.
